The Power of Pearl team just returned from an amazing weekend in Malibu! We attended the Pearl-Guide Pearl Ruckus, hosted by Jeremy Shepherd and the lovely folks at pearlparadise.com. The Ruckus was the official launch of our social media campaign and we are on the move! We are looking to all members of the pearl community to help share, spread, and shout their love of pearls and the important power they posses to make changes in the world.

At the Ruckus this past weekend, we took in some fresh air on the bluffs of Zuma beach, enjoyed some incredible food, and as usual were hard at work. We met a lot of interesting pearl lovers, watched an inspiring presentation from a Tahitian pearl farmer, Josh Humbert, and gave a presentation of our own.

This week our mission is to build our community on Facebook.

For the last 5,000 years pearls have been sought out and coveted by histories’ kings, queens, Pharos, Maharajas, and explorers. Lives have been and will continue to be lost searching, hunting, and diving for nature’s only living gem. Unlike the violence surrounding the conflict diamonds of Africa, the deforestation of the Amazon, or the land dredging and pollution of Alaskan gold mining, saltwater pearls must be farmed in only the most pristine environmental conditions of the world aiding in the prosperity of the surrounding marine life. Pearl farming on remote islands has inspired sustainability and culture all its own with intrinsic dangers equal to the reward. This unique and ever evolving gem has a beautiful, impassioned, and exciting story waiting to be told.
